The Paris Gare du Nord train station is located in the 10th arrondissement of Paris about 3 kilometers from the city center, very close to the Gare de l'Est. It is the largest train station in Paris, the most frequented in Europe and the third largest in the world

Built in a neoclassical modern style, the Gare du Nord was opened in 1846. The majestic facade, decorated with 23 statues by famous sculptors, is impressively illuminated in the evening.

The Gare du Nord has 44 tracks and is very important for both, long-distance and local traffic.

The track area is divided into four segments, the Thalys and Eurostar trains, Intercity and TGV, the urban network of the TER lines and RER network, and the Transilien network.

Public Transportation Access : There are 3 metro lines, 2 RER lines, 13 bus lines and 7 night bus lines of the Noctilien network to the Gare du Nord. The RER B connects to Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Train Connections in Paris Gare du Nord:

The Gare du Nord is a hub for international rail traffic and not only connects the northern and southern districts of Paris, but also serves the north of France and neighboring countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Great Britain.

Various types of trains depart from the Gare du Nord: TGV, Eurostar, Thalys, TER Picardy, Transilien and RER.

Thanks to the high-speed TGV trains, Paris is only 3 hours from Marseille and 2 hours from Lyon and Bordeaux.

The Eurostar to London also leaves from the Gare du Nord.

  • Germany: Travel time from Paris to Cologne is only 3 hours and 24 minutes.
  • England: The Eurostar runs via Brussels through the tunnel under the English Channel and reaches London from Paris in 2 hours and 15 minutes.
  • France: The TGV runs on a national level between Paris and Lille, for example, as well as the city of Arras. Transilien trains run to Beauvais, Pontoise and Compiègne, among others.

Public Transportation to get to Paris Gare du Nord:

  • Metro: Metro lines 1,5 and 2 pass through the North Station. The stops of lines 1 and 5 are located directly under the station, name of the stop: Gare du Nord. They offer a fast connection to the Gare de l'Est. The stop of line 2 is called "La Chapelle" and can be reached via a connecting path. 
  • RER: Access to the metro lines is on levels -1 and -2. The metros run daily from 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m., on Fridays and Saturdays even until 2:30 a.m. : Three lines of the RER go to the Gare du Nord : Lines B, D and E. The RER B, for example, goes to Charles de Gaulle Airport.
    The tracks of lines B and D are located at level -3 of the station building, line E leaves at level -2.
  • Bus: 13 bus lines are serving the train station:
    • 26: "La Fayette - Saint-Quentin - Gare du Nord" stop on Rue de la Fayette and Rue de Dunkerque
    • 31 and 56: „La Fayette – Magenta Gare du Nord“ stop on Boulevard de Magenta
    • 35, 38, 43, 45, 46, 48, 91 and 302:  „Gare du Nord“ stop on Rue Faubourg Saint-Denis
    • 39: "Gare du Nord – Dunkerque“ stops on Rue Dunkerque

Taxi at train station at Gare du Nord:

At the Gare du Nord there are 3 different cab companies. They all wait in the "Cours des cabs", i.e. in the cab parking lot in the Rue de Maubeuge. The exit is at the regional trains, called transiliens.

According to the currently valid taxi-rates, the basic fee for a cab in Paris is 7,30 €, the kilometer price is 1.09€ for the first seven kilometers and 1.65 € for each additional kilometer. Standing and waiting times are charged at 33.48 € per hour.

The night tariff is valid from Monday to Saturday for the time between 17:00 in the evening and 10:00 in the morning and on Sundays all day. During the night the basic charge is 7.30 €, the price per kilometer is 1.38 €, for standing and waiting times 42 € are charged.

Lockers and luggage storage at Gare du Nord:

The lockers at the Gare du Nord are located on the first basement floor (level -1). The automatic luggage deposit is open daily from 6:15 to 23:15.

Prices vary between 5.50 euros and 9.50 euros for 24 hours depending on the size of the locker. You have to pay an extra 5 € per 24 hours extra. Only cash accepted. The period for keeping your luggage is 3 days maximum.

The gastronomic offer at the Gare du Nord is varied.

Whether breakfast, lunch or dinner, various snack stands offer a quick meal for in-between - from Burger King and McDonald's to Starbucks, there is something for every taste. Five Guys serves burgers and Maison Praider offers lunch and dinner.

Mini supermarkets such as Carrefour City, Monop' Daily or Relay as well as coffee stores such as Columbus Café, Costa Coffee and Starbucks and the Paul Bakery can be found at the Gare du Nord.

Parking, parking garage and rental cars in Gare du Nord:

Two different paid parking garages are available at the Gare du Nord. The Euronord parking lot is located at 1 Bis Rue Ambroise Paré and is open daily and around the clock.
The EFFIA parking garage is located at 4, Rue de Compiègne and is wheelchair accessible. It is open daily from 5 to 1 am. 

The car rentals are located at the 'cour des cabs' at the side of the station on the first basement floor. Among others, the car rental companies Avis, Hertz, National and Europcar are available. Of course you can also book your rental car in advance online. The vehicle is then available directly upon arrival.
